Battle of the 'B' bands

Not 'B' as in 'B-Quality', rather: Barely Legal, Bloomfield and Banjomaphone.

Banjomaphone is the sweet marriage of a banjo and a saxamaphone. These odd partners should be a sound to behold.

Bloomfield is the fruit of Steve and Alex from the now defunct Dead Rose Sinclair. Melancholy Moodswinging Rock to brighten and darken your day.

Barely Legal is a four piece from las cruces with a very entertaining live show. At times it's poetic, at others tongue in cheek. If their show could be a meal it woudl be fried chicken with a side of caviar.

All at the Bean on Thursday.

On Saturday at the University House:

It's the Giant Haystacks, The Answer Lies and The Bellmont.
The Haystacks played here about 2 years ago - blew 2 roofs in one night.
The Answer Lies rocks the LC on a bi-monthly basis. If you're a fan of hardhitting and fastfast punk, you should check them out.
The Bellmont is an Alb. based band, they range from prog metal to indie rock and thoroughly deserve your attention.

Hope to see you there!

The Spores at the Bean TONIGHT!

We saw these guys down in el paso last night. It's a fun and slightly odd show! Starts out with a puppet show - can't say I've seen that before. They are all talented musicians and put on an excellent show. Their sound is rock saturated with electronica, a bit like Garbage. Their drummer is phenominal, the guitarist has shreds-a-plenty and the singer / bassist has a crunchy peanutbutter sound that melts the ears.

7pm Sound on Film (a tasty new LC/EP band)
8pm The Spores (Hollywood)

break out your eastern european roots kids!

Yes, i know slavic-chic when out in '62 - but it's coming back in a big way! And on the forefront of this craze are A Hawk and a Hacksaw - Check out their one-man-band + violin act. I know we've all seen it before, the old one-man playing the drums and accordion + violin act, but really, this is some crazy stuff. The drummer accordion guy (jeremy, ex-neutral milk hotel) straps an arsenal of music making equiptment on himself and then proceeds to wail with his amped-up accordion something that your great great great great grandfather would have gladly tapped his toe to. The skill of the violinist (heather, ex-foma) pushes the aforementioned wall of sound upward and spins it around until it falls over and lands right on you. bam.
A Hawk and a Hacksaw !

Accompanied by The Ever Green - this is a show you should check out.

In other news.............The Liars Friday and New River Blues on Saturday. You are guaranteed a dancing good time with both.

This week = BIG FUN

Yes all the rumors are true, tonight at 7ish you can hear normanoake at the bean. It's pop'y folky and should have you humming a nice little tune for the rest of the week. Hope to see you there. I know...the update is a little late - we're such slackers. Tomorrow you can catch the two administrators of this site at the club for the first public appearance of the ever green. Friday, Codeword Zeff is at El Patio, making their 21+ venue debut. Saturday, westwind music is having an all day fest type thing - they're located on north solano. Exciting!

The podcast has been a smash-up success with somewhere in the area of 215 downloads as of today. Thanks for listening - you make us happy!
